Gardens La Mortella

Mortella is a wonderful garden of Ischia, designed in 1958 and cared for 50 years by Lady Susan Walton, the wife of the composer Sir William Walton. Today La Mortella boasts the title of one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe. Lady Walton created the project together with the famous landscape architect Russell Page and then she continued alone for several years following her creative sense and ideas.

The Aragonese castle

Visit an island within the island. The Aragonese Castle is located on a rocky island located on the eastern side of Ischia. The access to the castle is very peculiar because you enter there thanks to a tunnel that was made in the rock in the middle of the '400. Before then the castle was accessible only via the sea. A wooden bridge connects the island with Ischia allowing everyone to easily come to visit the fortress that replicates the famous Maschio Angioino of Naples.

Borgo Sant' Angelo

Borgo Sant'Angelo is defined as picturesque for its narrow streets and for the views it offers. The famous Piazzetta is definitely the more loved place by those who visit Sant'Angelo. Open on the sea right on the quay of the small port. Strolling along the streets you can also stop to browse in the shops and in the peculiar boutique that populate the road.

ISCHIA BY MINIBUS HALF DAY

Is it possible to visit the green island in half a day stopping in all the major points of interest? We try! Ischia, the largest among the islands of the Gulf of Naples, is full of history, artistic and natural beauties. The charming villages, the small streets and the suggestive churches, breath-taking views and plenty of thermal water in all its forms (hot springs and fumaroles). A complete turn of the island is a must for those who arrive in Ischia and touring it in a half day allows to visit a little bit of everything which is interesting to see. In order to live fully the green island, you must however have the time: that is why there are also other excursions!
Along the route there will be little stops at the main points of interest: Ischia Ponte, Casamicciola Terme, Lacco Ameno, Forio, Serrara Fontana and Barano. The visit to the ancient fishing village of Sant'Angelo will take one hour.
Expected duration: approximately 4 hours with departure from the hotel.

ISCHIA BY MINIBUS WHOLE DAY

Ischia can be explored in many ways: one of the best is to spend an entire day to discover its natural, artistic and historical beauties. SORRENTO, AMALFI, POSITANO, RAVELLO

The Italian beauties are many but on the Amalfi Coast there are many, all together. Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano and Ravello: four pearls set between rocky spurs and a wonderful sea. An excursion that offers panoramas, flavours and colours unique in the world. A limoncello on the peninsula of Sorrento, a quick visit to the imposing cathedral dominating Amalfi and the colourful Positano. Even the German composer Wagner fell in love with Ravello and its views. Unable to remain impassive in front of so much charm!
6 a.m. appointment. 6.40 a.m. departure for Naples. We will drive along the Autostrada Napoli- Castellammare in the direction of Vico Equense, then we will take the panoramic road to get to Sorrento. Stop and visit to the city (40 min). Continuing along the Amalfi Coast, we will admire Positano from above. Along the coast we will stop to enjoy and photograph the unique panorama. Visit of Amalfi, stroll in the centre, visit of the Cathedral of St. Andrea and of the cloister. From Amalfi we climb toward Ravello. Visit of the charming Villa Rufolo. Return through the Mounts Lattari up to the highway to Naples. 7 p.m. return to Ischia.

POMPEI, SORRENTO, AMALFI

A holiday in Ischia is not complete if you do not visit also the other beauties of the Amalfi Coast and the Gulf of Naples. An alternative to the classic tour that stops in the main the pearls of the Gulf can be a visit to a place of the hinterland like Pompeii and to Sorrento and Amalfi. The best of Magna Grecia in only one day: a visit to the archaeological excavations under the shadow of the Vesuvius and a stroll among the colours and the scents of the coast.
6 a.m. appointment. 6.40 a.m. departure for Naples. We will reach Pompei. Pompei, guided visit to the excavations (2 hours); Sorrento visit and stop in the city (30 min). Amalfi, visit of the centre, of the Cathedral and of the cloister. 7 p.m. return to Ischia.

POMPEI, VESUVIUS

(Wednesday, Friday and Sunday)
A trip outside the city during a holiday in Ischia to the discovery of the green slopes of the volcano, symbol of Naples, Vesuvius and the most suggestive archaeological excavations of the world: Pompei. The archaeological area is an open-air museum formed as a result of the spectacular eruption in 79 AD that covered with ash everything within miles. The volcano, not far away, is a wild reserve where you can breathe clean air and take a relaxing walk observing the different natural phenomena.
6 a.m. appointment. 6.40 a.m. departure for Naples. We will reach Pompei. Guided visit to the excavations and stop (approximately 2 hours). Lunch break. Continuation for the Vesuvius. The excursion will be guided by an expert who will explain the history, the geology and the natural phenomena. 7 p.m. return to Ischia.

NAPLES YESTERDAY AND TODAY BY THE BUS

Naples, the pearl of the homonymous gulf, is one of the most beautiful cities of the world. A walk among the picturesque alleys of the historical centre of the city and the narrow passage between the ancient palaces, the many baroque churches (and not only), offer a unique view of the city. Come on holiday in Ischia and then spend a day in Naples is a fascinating experience absolutely not to be missed.
Starting from Ischia to Pozzuoli, we will continue by bus to Naples. Sightseeing of the city. The excursion with guide continues up to Piazza del Gesù. You can visit the old town centre on foot. Visiting and stop to the churches of S. Clear, Gesù Nuovo, Cloister and underground Naples with the remains of the Greek-roman city. Lunch break. In the afternoon visit to the monumental area with Piazza Municipio, Galleria Umberto, Piazza del Plebiscito and the superb buildings of San Carlo Theatre, the Royal Palace and the Church of S. Francesco da Paola. Return to Ischia.

Appointment in the early afternoon and boarding for Procida. Once on the island with a micro taxi, nice three wheels motor bikes, unique in their folklore style or with a taxi. The excursion consists in tour that takes you to the Terra Murata, medieval citadel with the beautiful Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo, The Library of 1500 and the Roman catacombs. In the late afternoon we board the ship to return to Ischia.

CAPRI BY BOAT

Arrive on the Isola Azzurra by sea is like landing in a small paradise. A corner of paradise made of coloured houses, squares and small artisan workshops which harmoniously blend with the luxury boutiques and the yachts moored in the Marina Grande. This is Capri: the younger sister of Ischia but that shines like a small pearl in the Gulf of Naples. From Anacapri, to Grotta Azzurra passing by the Faraglioni, Capri is a postcard that remains in the heart.
We leave by motorboat from Forio at 7.55 and from Ischia at 8.30. In Capri, together with the tour guide, by minibus, we leave for the high area of the island, Anacapri. We will travel along a panoramic road which offers a magnificent view of the entire Gulf of Naples. We will visit the historical centre by foot and we arrive at the Museum of "Capri in Miniature". Lunch break. We will go back to Capri for a visit to the famous Piazzetta of Capri to reach the Gardens of Augustus from where it is possible to observe the Faraglioni and Marina Piccola. At the Garden it is possible to visit the monastery of the Certosa and a factory of typical perfumes. Relaxing break or for those who wants, shopping (1 hour and a half). It is also possible to do excursion by sea to the Grotta Azzurra. 4 p.m. return to Ischia.
